On this date in 1002 AD, the St. Brice’s Day Massacre: King Aethelred II orders the execution of all Danes in England. 1942, Battle of Guadalcanal, a naval battle that effectively ended Japanese advancement in the war, described by President Roosevelt as the “turning point” of WWII in the Pacific Theatre.
